About Okanagan Gleaners

 

Established in 1994, Okanagan Gleaners Society was founded in 1994 by a small group of Christian believers in the South Okanagan Valley out of a growing concern for the hungry people of the world. From surplus fruit and vegetables, dried fruit and vegetable soup mix is processed and in partnership with Christian relief agencies, over 80 million servings have been sent to more than 50 countries around the world. 

 

Position Summary

 

Reporting to the President, the Plant Manager is responsible for the supervision and direction of volunteers and for the efficient use of material resources.  Ensuring that Board policies are followed, the Manager will give oversight to all the assets and operations and will be fiscally responsible for budget costs.  The expectation is to create an efficient and safe operation that meets the Organization’s vision of feeding the hungry with a quality soup mix.

 

Key Responsibilities and Expectations

 

  • Liaise with and direct volunteers, staff and special project teams and committees

  • Direct training and development of volunteers and staff

  • Manage acquisition and movement of product, equipment and materials

  • Manage documentation and record keeping

  • Inventory control and distribution

  • Fiscal responsibility

  • Develop and maintain relationships with donors, suppliers, partners, within the community and other Gleaner organizations

  • Maintain the plant in good operating condition, including building, equipment and grounds

  • Manage volunteer bookings, RV site reservations and volunteer recruitment

 

The ideal candidate will have the following skills/experience:

 

Performance management, project management, coaching, ability to foster teamwork, work well under pressure, supervising volunteers, public speaking, development of standards and procedures, Food Safe Certificate and most importantly a missionaries’ heart.

 

The successful candidate will be ministry minded, mature and filled with the desire to make a difference in our modern world. If you have a calling to do God’s ministry work and are a well-organized individual who loves working with seniors and youth, this may be the position for you.
