WHAT ARE THE EXPECTATIONS OF VOLUNTEERS STAYING ON SITE?

Our volunteer hours are Monday to Friday, from 8:30 am to noon. If you are coming with a large group please send us a note and let us know how many people are coming so we can be prepared. We ask that you be ready to work at 8:30 am sharp. If you are staying on site, you are expected to volunteer on the days that you are staying.

CAN I BRING MY PET WITH ME WHEN I COME TO VOLUNTEER?

The easy answer is NO due to Food Safety concerns. If you are staying with us in your RV, pets are only allowed in your own RV as long as they stay within the confines of the RV site, tied up or inside at ALL times and taken off the property to do their business. Please let us know if you are bringing a pet with you when you book your RV site. Pets are also not allowed in the camping area or inside the Gleaners' buildings as this is a food processing facility.

DO I NEED TO BRING ANYTHING WITH ME FOR WORKING?

WorkSafe BC requires anyone working on the premises to wear close-toed shoes only. Aprons are provided. Wear clothing that will be comfortable and that you don't mind getting dirty.

WHAT KIND OF VEGETABLES/FRUIT WILL WE BE PROCESSING WHEN WE COME? WILL WE BE DRYING FRUIT OR MAKING SOUP MIX?

 

We don't know ahead of time what we will be processing when you are here, but it will most likely be a type of vegetable. Soup mixing is scheduled by Management. If you would like to come specifically for soup mixing time, please call the plant at (250) 498-8859. We need lots of volunteers during mixing time.

IF I WANT TO COME AND VOLUNTEER, BUT I’D RATHER NOT STAY ON-SITE, WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS?

 

There are lots of places to stay in the Oliver area. The best thing to do is to search for Oliver motel/RV park/campground on the internet and see what you can find. Keep in mind that Oliver is a very busy place in the summer with tourists, so you will want to book in advance to be sure that you get a room/RV spot.

DOES GLEANERS HOST A WORSHIP & PRAYER TIME?

 

We don't host any worship time but there is a prayer time every morning at 9:00 after work has started. We stop for coffee and snacks around 10:00 am.
